What Matters to Egmont
These aren't talking points from a strategy memo. These are the issues I hear about at the grocery store, at the wharf, and around the kitchen table.
Affordability & Cost of Living
The cost of everything has gone up. Groceries. Fuel. Heating oil. Rent. And Island wages haven't kept pace. The carbon tax makes it worse. Federal spending makes it worse. Families in Egmont are making impossible choices between heating their homes and feeding their kids.
I'll fight to scrap the carbon tax, reduce the tax burden on working families, and hold Ottawa accountable for spending that drives up the cost of living. People shouldn't have to choose between groceries and gas.
Fishing Industry & Rural Economy
The fishery is the lifeblood of western PEI — from Tignish to Egmont Bay. Lobster, crab, oysters — our harvesters feed the world. But they're dealing with federal regulations that don't make sense, DFO decisions made by people who've never been on a boat, and a government that treats rural industries like an afterthought.
I'll advocate for fishermen and plant workers. I'll push for common-sense regulations written with input from the people who actually work on the water. And I'll make sure Egmont's fishing communities have a seat at the table in Ottawa.
Agriculture & Food Security
PEI potatoes feed the country. Around O'Leary, Kensington, and across Egmont, our farmers are some of the hardest-working people anywhere. But they're facing rising input costs, climate uncertainty, trade barriers, and a federal government that doesn't seem to understand what it takes to put food on the table.
I'll stand up for our agricultural sector. That means supporting supply management, fighting for fair trade deals, reducing the regulatory burden on family farms, and making sure our farmers can pass their land on to the next generation.
Healthcare Access
Too many Islanders can't find a family doctor. Emergency rooms are overcrowded. Wait times for specialists are unacceptable. In rural Egmont, the situation is especially difficult — people are driving hours for basic care.
Healthcare is a provincial responsibility, but the federal government has a role to play. I'll push for increased health transfers to PEI, support for rural doctor recruitment, and investment in the infrastructure our communities need. No one should wait months for the care they need.
Housing
Young families can't afford to buy. Renters are being squeezed. Seniors are worried about staying in their homes. The housing crisis isn't just a big-city problem — it's here in Egmont, too.
I'll support measures to increase housing supply, cut the red tape that slows down construction, and make sure federal housing programs actually work for small communities — not just Toronto and Vancouver.
National Unity & Responsible Government
Canada works best when every region has a voice. For too long, Atlantic Canada has been overlooked. Federal spending is out of control. Government programs are bloated and inefficient. And trust in Ottawa is at an all-time low.
I believe in a federal government that respects taxpayers, balances its budget, and treats every province — including the smallest ones — as a full partner in Confederation. Egmont may be small, but our voice matters.
